Video Game Industry News for December 2022

  • Elden Ring Wins Game of the Year at the Video Game Awards (NPR.org) – a surprise to no one.  Meanwhile, the awards ceremony was crashed by an influencer known for crashing award ceremonies (LATimes.com) – so maybe less of a crash and more of a cameo?
  • Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch Leaked. An unreleased collector’s edition LoZ:TotK OLED Switch was spotted on Reddit. (NintendoEverything.com)
  • FTC Sues to Stop Blizzard Activision Microsoft Merger. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is concerned that Microsoft will withhold content from rival platforms. (NPR.org)

Major Video Game Releases for December 2022

  • The Callisto Protocol, a sci-fi horror game from the creator of Dead Space, released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC (SDS.com).
  • Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a strategy RPG by Firaxis (XCOM), blending tactical card-based combat and character interactions with Marvel heroes, released on PS5, XBox Series X/S and PC (2K.com).
  • Hello Neighbor 2, a stealth horror sequel with evolving AI neighbor and neighborhood exploration mechanics, released on consoles and PC (HelloNeighbor2.com).
  • High on Life, from the creators of Rick & Morty, released as an Xbox/Windows exclusive (SquanchGames.com).
